My Husband just got really angry with me for something small, How do I make him see the light?

So here are the details... I was cleaning the bathroom counter the other week and I threw out the collar inserts from my husband's newly bought dress shirts that he left on the counter for over a week. He flipped out on me yelling and yelling in front of our son, not to touch his stuff, that he likes to put the collar inserts back in his shirts after they are clean to keep the shape of the collar. Now to give this perspective... After 10 years of living together he has NEVER saved any of these things before when buying dress shirts. What was I supposed to do know by osmosis to keep these things. If I don't pick up after him our house would be crap. He left a bag full of trash in our bedroom for two weeks before finally telling me it was trash. I feel really hurt by how he totally spazzed out on me this morning on something that I feel is menial. It was disrespectful to our marriage and disrespectful to me as a person. How do I get across to him how wrong this was?
