Flying SAS from Chicago to Sweden, my mom and I. Can we both carry a backpack and a carry on bag for free?

My mom and I are flying to Sweden from ohare and we are at 52.albs per luggage and it seems that the limit is 50lbs. We were thinking if we can bring 2 backpacks and 1 carry on bag (in other words we are taking some stuff out of the overweight bags (2-albs each overweight) and dividing them in the backpacks and carry on. What is allowed and is that fine?
